UPDATED 07/11/2001 I now have a new RX7, this one is a 1985 Series 3 Finale Model with 111,000 kms on t, it also has a S4 13B turbo motor with a mild port, front mount intercooler, piss poor excuse for an exhaust (soon to be changed) . As it is now on 10 psi it makes 180 rear wheel Kilowatts. the ECU is a Haltech F9a for now. the wheels are 17" ROH's Planned mod's include a brand new exhaust system, the current one comprises of a Cat, 4 ressies and a commie muffler and is very restrictive, its all got very shocking welding too...especially around the dump pipe area. The new exhaust system will be a straight through 3 inch system that will have no ressies or restriction, just a rotaflow to keep it relatively quiet. I also plan to upgrade my intercooler and pipe work, at the moment it is held on by a maze work of zip ties and so on (thanks Timbo) the pipes are quite dodgy since it was a quick job to get it boosting and on the road. it was always going to be a temporary set up, it all works quite well but i can feel that it is restrictive, with the turbo taking a while to spool up when i boot it. Some SA rego might help the cause too :) ive decided against custom places for police harassment reasons. UPDATE: 14/09/2001 gearbox blew.... am getting a Series 5 type now to replace my S4 one. nothing really went bang... selectors snapped and its an old worn box with syncros needing replacement... so i thought fuck it.... i'll just wack another import box in there.... damn cheap enough. Am doing this over the weekend. I've just changed the suspension too, Kings and Koni's in the rear and KYB shocks in the front on lowered springs. Adjustable tops to allow negative camber, im going to be adding a fat swaybar soon and some new bushes. UPDATE: 19/09/2001 New gearbox is in the car after many hours trying to fit the fucker, my main problem was that i had to work in my gravel driveway on jacks. I now have a S5 turbo box, feels so much better in everyway, can change gears so much harder and enables me to chirp 4th gear in the dry if i really try hard =) UPDATE: 7/09/2001 Well car's going good, ive put a new exhaust on, done by Marky Mark at Exhaust Tech. It comprises of mandrel bent 3 inch pipes all the way from the turbo to the dump. Ive got a Magna flow 3inch box and a 4inch SP style tip... its gone gold from the intense flames :) Power would be up there nearing 200 rwkw's ive yet to had it dyno'ed due to lack of funds.
This is my old S3 RX7. Here is a photo of my 1984 S3 RX7 that I had for two and a half years, when I bought it, it came with a 13b six port that I though was great at the time, then after me driving 40,000Ks it blew up, so I then went for more power. Modifications included S5 turbo motor that has been rebuilt and extend ported by Mildren Race Engineering in South Australia. Running a 48IDA Weber through a 2.5" exhaust system into a rotaflow muffler. This set up at the moment is good for 116 rear wheel KW's and when i blot on a standard S5 turbo with low boost plus aftermarket ECU i will be looking at 180 rear wheel KW's with more boost 200RWKW is easy. I run projected low 14's currently and would be looking at low 12 high 11's with turbo. Other mods include tidy up of body, i.e., removing dealer stripes and so on, 15" wheels of unknown origins, 4" rice tip on my muffler, Pioneer CD player stereo inside. Future mods include a turbo of course!!!, suspension work and upgraded brakes (much needed) Maybe a respray, who knows.
